Trent’s Day

Trent Sakakini is a mechanical engineering senior and student-athlete.

Trent has an interest in learning about engineering in general, with a focus in mechanical and aerospace. Over the summer Trent earned an engineering internship and is excited to continue to expand his knowledge.

When he’s not learning about SolidWorks or 3D Modeling, he is a member of the UTD men’s cross country team, which won its second consecutive American Southwest Conference championship in 2019 before the 2020 season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Even though this semester is not what he expected, Trent has kept up his spirits and is making the best of his time. Follow him through a typical day of in-person and online classes, running and following COVID-19 safety protocols on campus.

5:17 a.m.

Meet Trent. He’s a @utdallasjonsson student and a @utdallas_xc runner. Check out his #MyUTD experience.

Sound. “Hello! My name’s Trent. I’m a mechanical engineering major on the men’s cross country team, and follow along to see what my UTD’s all about.”

6:00 a.m.

First-person view of walking on a sidewalk in the dark. Street lights and a stop light are visible in the distance.

Nothing like an early morning run to start off the day.

8:17 a.m.

Trent in a weight room. He's wearing a UTD t-shirt and a black mask with print of stars, moons and and planets.

Post run.

How’s my mask?
OUT OF THIS WORLD | NO COMET

Now it’s time for weights.

9:58 a.m.

The best part of online class: the commute.

10:38 a.m.

Selfie of Trent, wearing a mask, with campus's tree-lined reflecting pools in the background.

Campus might be empty, but doesn’t mean you can’t go out and enjoy the view! With a face mask and following social distancing of course.

12:13 p.m.

View from seated at a table on a balcony. A sandwich on a plate and a cup are on the table. There's a tree with green leaves right in front of the balcony. Parking lot with two cars can be seen past the tree.

Nice day to enjoy the outdoors! 85°F (With a tree in the way.)

2:57 p.m.

Trent seated at a laptop. He's raising his eyebrows and he has his hand to his chin.

Time for the Comet LEAD meeting at 3!

4:23 p.m.

A Trent selfie. A campus building and wet sidewalk is behind him. He's doing a mini whoosh hand sign.

Luckily I have one class in person. So off to the best building, ECSW!

6:17 p.m.

Trent's hand holding an xbox controller. A TV on a stand is in front of him. Shrug emoji.

What better way to end the day than playing some games?

9:33 p.m.

Thank y’all for following along!

Sound. “Well, that’s a wrap to my UTD. I hope y’all enjoyed it as much as I did. And remember – wear a face mask, socially distance, and go Comets.”
